We would like to extend a warm thank you to each person who has given to the University of Rochester History Department! Your donations help make our program "Ever Better" every day. We are proud to announce your support has directly enhanced the learning experiences of so many of our students. We would like to highlight some of those opportunities here:
The Neil and Marian Evans Fund supported a URochester History graduate student Emmarae Stein's research trip to Madrid in July 2025.
The Dexter Perkins Fund provided funding for research and conferences for the following graduate students in fiscal year 2025:
Daniel McDermott
Elizabeth Sapere
Lizzy Carr
Ewa White
Justin Grossman
Some of the income from this fund is spent on the Dexter Perkins Prizes, in the form of a book written by one of our faculty. This book prize is awarded to the outstanding senior student in history in the Rochester area high schools who choose to participate (currently thirty-three). A dedication note is placed in each award, and the selection of the winner is made by each high school.
The History Alumni Advisory Committee Fund for Undergraduate Studies assisted the following students in FY25 with research trips, posters for presentations at conferences and workshops, and access to archival materials.
James Kinde
Chenxuan Luo
Jonah Stapels
Paola Almendarez
Shunram Yang
Anika Grieve
Evan Gravdahl
Ellis Siepel
It also provided support for the HOUR (History Opportunities for Undergraduate Research) Program. The HOUR Program gives our students the experience of working on current research projects with our faculty.
The general gift fund supports both the undergraduate and graduate programs in many ways such as events, research funding, conference trips, and annual prizes awarded at the Department's ceremony during Commencement Weekend.
The Kelly Family History Book Fund continues to assist a number of students each semester. It provides students in need with books for their courses that they can keep when their classes are complete.
The Bermuda Archeology Funds provides Professor Michael Jarvis with funding for on-site research in Bermuda and the field school he runs in the summer. Many students benefit each year from the opportunity to do hands-on research in Bermuda. They are led by Professor Jarvis and prior field school participants.
The Dean's Fund is used primarily to support the graduate program. It has funded graduate research and conference travel, graduate student events, access to archival materials (including printing fees), and recruitment visits. At times, it has been used to support the undergrad program - mostly events organized by our Undergraduate History Council.
We sincerely thank each and every one of you for your ongoing support and generosity.
