Hi! My name is Matthew Freeman and I am one of the History Department’s peer advisors. I’m a senior majoring in History with a minor in Jewish Studies. I’m also vice president of the Undergraduate History Council, a student-run organization affiliated with the department.
This is my fourth semester as a peer advisor, and when I am not assisting students with questions they have, I'm in charge of updating our publications. Primarily, I have been making sure our course listings are up-to-date and accessible to students. I have been working on developing an undergraduate handbook with Jacqui Rizzo, History Business Administrator & Undergraduate Coordinator, that will contain all information History students need, including courses categorized by focus area, information on how to declare a major or minor, and other useful resources. When not working on the before mentioned projects, I help with various tasks around the office, and have assisted with designing posters and other materials for department events. If you follow any of our social media, you may have seen posts I contributed to!
This position has been an incredibly valuable experience. I have been able to get to know the department better than some of my peers, and it has helped me to understand what goes into making our department so special.
Although this is my last semester at Rochester, I am going to London next year to study for a History MA at University College London!
